gingerbread cake with cinnamon buttercream frosting

November 24, 2017

I hope y’all had a WONDERFUL Thanksgiving! Filled with lots of stuffing, cranberry sauce, and pie, I hope. This year, instead of traveling anywhere (we went to Florida last Thanksgiving), I’ve been picking up the slack and really getting to work on my blog. And taking a long-anticipated break from schoolwork, of course.

To be honest, we aren’t much of a traditional-Thanksgiving-food type of family. My parents are both Chinese, so things like turkey and creamed corn aren’t exactly their favorite. However, for some reason my parents love stuffing and we made Tieghan’s butternut squash n’ mushroom stuffing which was SO GOOD. Let me just say, our fridge is stuffed. We’re going to be having stuffing for leftovers for two weeks straight, I swear!

spice bagels

November 19, 2017

Soooo my calendar is telling me it’s t-minus 4 days until Thanksgiving day… How crazy is that? All of October feels like a blur to me, which is so weird. My dad has already been splurging on some pre-holiday gifts for himself, which has been kind of funny to watch. Which means November is almost over, and the countdown to Christmas has already begun. Where has time gone?

(I haven’t posted in forever, so this is my lame attempt to start up a conversation, if you haven’t already noticed.)

giant chocolate skillet cookie

October 20, 2017

Oh, hey there👋🏻Don’t mind me… just writing these last minute #Choctoberfest blog posts at about 1 AM, in addition to the sea of homework I’m currently drowning in. Productivity? Yes. Procrastinating? Absolutely. But a full 8 hours of sleep? Nahhhh.

But today, I’m sharing this crazy amazing, grain-free, refined sugar free GIANT chocolate skillet cookie, so isall good💆🏿‍♂️ (<— also that was supposed to be an “ok” emoji but I’m just gonna leave that there because, honestly, who cares? a guy getting a head massage is way more interesting)

(You can tell when I’m on coffee overdrive and wayyyy past my bedtime when I start doing things that I normally would never put on this blog. Like for real. You’re seeing a really different side of me today.)

However, I’m going to try and smile through the exhaustion, because I’m kind of addicted to this humongous skillet cookie and I’m really excited to share this recipe with y’all. Hope y’all will give it a try!

pumpkin spice hot cocoa (#choctoberfest 2017)

October 16, 2017

This post is sponsored by Rodelle. All opinions are my own! xo

Before I get carried away and forget to say what I need to say, I want to quickly introduce y’all to my new fav food blog event of the year… #Choctoberfest! Whoop whoop! It’s officially the third celebration of all things chocolate, and I couldn’t be more excited to join the Choctoberfest gang for the very first time this year.

It’s crazy that over 70 bloggers are participating and will be posting 200+ chocolate recipes over the next week. If you want more of them, make sure to check out the other blogs below (there’s a lot, but they’re all amazing and lurking their blogs is definitely worth it ;)). You can also explore the #Choctoberfest hashtag on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook, and check out the #Choctoberfest Pinterest board, where we post chocolate recipes all year long.

None of this would have been made possible with our gold and silver sponsors: Imperial Sugar and Barlean’s. We appreciate them so much for making Choctoberfest possible!

Oh yeah, and did I mention there is a massive giveaway at the end? Yeah, there’s a massive giveaway at the end.

Almond Brownies

August 13, 2017

al•mond brown•ies: (n) a square of nutty, chocolatey goodness, where one bite takes you to a world of crunchy, fudgey, gluten free heaven, leaving you wanting more. In other words, these are not your average brownies.

First of all, let’s get a couple things straight. I’ve raved over so so so many chocolate flavor pairings before (y’all know my unconditional love for chocolate), namely peanut butter and chocolate. Oh, and we can’t forget about the raspberry/chocolate and pistachio/chocolate combos. But almonds and chocolate? Ho-ly crud. You’d expect it to taste similar to the peanut butter and chocolate, but the natural flavor and crunch from the almonds with the smooth, chewy texture of the brownie is something entirely different. For real! I can’t explain it… they’re just sooooo good!

Chocolate Chia Pudding (in a mason jar!)

August 9, 2017

Say hello to thick, chocolatey, chia pudding heaven! Yeahhhh, baby. Ever since I first read Cookie and Kate’s chia pudding recipe, I knew it was time for me to jump on the chia pudding trend. As usual, I’m late. They’ve been popular in the food/health world for quite a while, and since it’s such an easy and delicious recipe to make, I’m kind of surprised that I’m only now sharing this chocolate chia pudding recipe on the blog!

Thing is, I know most people out there enjoy simple, easy recipes that can be made in a flash. This chocolate chia pudding is made directly in a mason jar, so you can prepare the pudding, chill it in the fridge and let it do it’s chia magic, then take it out the next morning and add toppings! Seriously, when they say “under 5 minutes” I literally mean under 5 minutes. And if it’s a lazy Sunday morning, treat yourself by pouring the pudding into a bowl and topping it (so #fancy and #instagrammable).

Strawberry Peach Crumble

June 30, 2017

It’s hard to believe that the last day #cookoutweek is finally upon us. This entire week, I’ve had so much fun coming up with yummy, summer-themed recipes, and being able to collaborate with some pretty cool food bloggers. I’ve covered a delicious classic tomato bruschetta appetizer, green grilled pizza entreé, and finally, I’m sharing a strawberry peach crumble for dessert! Cobblers/crisps/crumbles have been super trendy this summer (well, basically every summer), and I’m completely loving it. Baked to bubbly, golden brown perfection, this crumble is the dessert for any outdoor summer get together.

Healthy Lemon Blueberry Donuts

June 2, 2017

Is there really anything better than a freshly baked, lemon blueberry donut? These are baked to soft, fluffy perfection, sweetened with golden-delicious honey, and bursting with bunches of citrusy goodness. Also, there’s the fact that it’s the first day of summer, and National Donut Day. Coincidence? I think not… just the little bit of magic life throws at us every now and then. Today, that magic is in the form of these dangerously enticing lemon blueberry donuts.

But really, though. I’m obsessed.

The Best Apple Turnovers

May 26, 2017

It’s memorial day weekend, and of course it’s another excuse for me to make something apple pie themed. As you can tell by the recipe title, of course, I ended up making these mouth watering apple turnovers! Because apple pie has been around in America for quite a while, it’s been a traditional recipe that most people associate with USA holidays. In fact, in the first blog post I ever wrote on My Southern Sweet Tooth (which, sadly, doesn’t exist anymore), I mentioned one of my all time favorite cookbooks ever: The Good Housekeeping Illustrated Cookbook.

While I was flipping through the cookbook, I happened to stumble upon a beautiful apple turnovers recipe. Naturally, I had to put my own, slightly healthier twist on it (but only slightly). In these apple turnovers, I implemented coconut oil, whole wheat flour, and honey instead of sugar. As always, feel free to replace with those ingredients with anything you’d like.

I’m going to have to admit, these past couple of weeks have been crazy for me, so I’d like to apologize for being gone for for so long. Finals week is coming up in just a few days, we’ve been having some end-of-the-year festivities, and I’ve been completely swamped with afterschool activities. After summer starts (!!!), I’ll be posting way more consistently.

Banana Nut Smoothie Bowl

May 7, 2017

Happy Sunday y’all! It’s been a pretty hectic couple of days, and now that all the craziness has somewhat subsided, I’m completely exhausted and in need of a nice, long nap. A good solid 9 hours of sleep is all I really want! Nonetheless, I’ve still got tons of chores and things to do around the house. Because I’ve been so busy, this banana nut smoothie bowl has really been a life saver for me in the mornings, and a great afternoon snack for when I get home from school. I love throwing all of my ingredients in my Ninja the night before, refrigerating it, and it’s all ready to blend and go. When I have the time, I’ll pour it into a bowl and make it fancy with nuts and bananas. It’s creamy, energizing, and super duper healthy!
